Sport Fishing in Murchison Falls
Murchison Falls offers one of the best spots for sport fishing. The Southern and Northern Banks of the River Nile below the Murchison Falls offers the most exhilarating challenges to enthusiastic anglers. Found within the powerful currents and highly oxygenated water is the Nile Perch, which provides the opportunity to have an enormous catch with the record being 108 kilograms. Other fish species also caught within the Murchison Falls include Tiger fish and Cat fish. Sport fishing within the Murchison Falls National park is accepted within the gazzeted places and advance booking is required, and intending anglers are advised to bring their personal equipments such as multiplier fishing reel and/or Mounted spool, and then acquire sport fishing permits from the Uganda Wildlife Authority offices.
Sport Fishing in Mount Elgon
Sport fishing within Mount Elgon National Park is conducted from above the highest of the three waterfalls at the Sipi Area outside Mount Elgon National Park. It offers interesting opportunities to anglers who boast in battling with the rainbow trout because of its wonderful coloration and fighting ability. The largest trout fish caught can weigh up to 3 kilograms.
Sport fishing within Mount Elgon is restricted to the designated places and advance booking is not very important but the intending participants are advised to carry their own fishing equipments, and then obtain a fishing permit from the Sipi River Lodge so as to participate.
Sport Fishing in Lake Mburo
With over 6 interesting species of fish within Lake Mburo, it is undeniable that sport fishing is conducted within this Lake, and Tilapia is the most common fish species within this Lake. The gazzeted fishing spot within Lake Mburo is at Mazinga, and tourists planning to catch fish from Lake Mburo should carry their own fishing equipments and acquire a fishing permit from the Uganda Wildlife Authority.
Sport Fishing in Lake Victoria
Lake Victoria is the nearest place for tourists who prefer nearby places and fishing trips are available to all anglers whether novices of the experienced anglers. On the banks of Lake Victoria, Sport fishing can be conducted throughout the year but the best fishing time is October to March. You can catch Nile Perch weighing between 10 and 100 kilogram and the main fishing method is trolling with lures, and Tilapia weighing from 1 kilogram and 2 kilogram which are caught using the fly fishing method.
Sport Fishing within Lake Victors is conducted near the Islands, using 18 feet ski boats with single foam-filled hull which is done by the Yamaha 140HP out-board engine boat that carries a maximum of 4 passengers or by a canoe and a 24 feet long fiber glass.
For tourists intending to carry out sport fishing from Lake Victoria do not have to bring their own equipments, since most equipments are provided and they include Life jackets, first Aid box, Electronic fish-finder, fire extinguisher, lures for trolling the Perch and GPS.
Sport fishing trips begin from 9:00am to 12:00pm, then from 1:00pm to 5:00pm, and a half day trips lasts 4 hours while the full day trip lasts 8 hours and the places to fish are determined based on the prevailing weather conditions.
Therefore, sport fishing is one of the possible activities that tourists who visit Uganda can participate in Uganda can engage in and is carried out from Lake Mburo, Murchison Falls, Sipi Area of the Mount Elgon and within Lake Victoria.
